Kayak Nature Tour to
Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Reserve

May 13; June 10; other dates TBA

From the intimate perspective only a kayak can offer, explore the twisting, wildlife-rich channels of this important wetland treasure with local naturalist and award-winning author Roger Schumann. We'll glide among otters, seals and an astounding array of bird life as Roger shares some of his favorite "secret spots" along with the slough's fascinating natural history gleaned from his 15 years of paddling there. Unlike most tours in the area, we will be encouraging the use of stable, single kayaks to explore the channels more freely, however, 2-person kayaks will also be available on request.

"Winding some 7 miles from the sea into rolling coastal hills, Elkhorn Slough is California's second-largest marine wetland...and one of only twenty National Estuarine Reserves in the country. Its fertile salt marshes and mudflats support an incredible diversity of marine life. In addition to being one of the best places to view seals and sea otters from a kayak--multiple sightings are essentially guaranteed--the slough is a major feeding ground for migratory birds on the West Coast."
